Changes in inventories of finished goods, work-in-progress and stock-in-trade stood at Rs (59.11) lakh versus Rs (71.60) lakh a year earlier. Employee benefit expenses eased to Rs 61.39 lakh from Rs 66.97 lakh, and finance costs were Rs 31.25 lakh compared with Rs 34.57 lakh. Depreciation / amortisation and depletion expense reduced to Rs 46.20 lakh from Rs 55.27 lakh, while other expenses increased to Rs 328.43 lakh from Rs 267.91 lakh.

Profit before tax for the quarter was a loss of Rs (2.13) lakh, narrower than the loss of Rs (31.68) lakh in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Profit / (Loss) for the period from continuing operations, which is also the reported profit for the period, was Rs (3.07) lakh versus Rs (24.21) lakh a year earlier. Basic and diluted earnings per share for the quarter were both Rs (0.031), compared with Rs (0.241) in the corresponding prior-year quarter, as per the statement of financial results.
